According to a study done by Orbitz, the online travel booking site, millennials ranked plants as their top choice. We teamed up with Orbitz to help bring this millennial dream to life. 

In order to create a plant-lovers oasis, we brought 600+ live plants to the Kimpton Gray Hotel. We selected 10 rooms to completely transform into unique experiences - 2 of each of the following themes: the palm room, the fern room, the desert room, the sugar room and the aroid room. Each room came with a relaxation kit, organic scents and sounds of nature. Each room was available for booking on Orbitz’s website as a part of the “Plant Pop Up.”

For those unable to reserve a room fast enough, I designed and had custom-fabricated a greenhouse in the hotel lobby so that anyone could take in the plants while they enjoyed happy hours throughout the duration of the event. Plant-lovers from near and far jumped at the opportunity to book the weekend experience, or even simply come for a drink in one. 

Plants are my happy place, so the “tedious” work of detailed planning plant type/size/location for each room was a dream come true. Armed with my laminated room floorpans (measured and drawn to scale by my obsessive self) and a fistful of dry erase markers I transformed each room in my mind and brought it to life - under budget! Perhaps not traditionally the job of agency creative director, I loved every moment of it, this project was my baby.

In a socially-shareable world, it’s important to convey your message in genuine yet attention-getting ways. We teamed up with influencers, both locally and nationally, to share the word about the Orbitz Plant Pop Up. Their organic reach created buzz around the event and brand, causing the story to be picked up by local news outlets as well.

Working with Orbitz allowed us to create an unforgettable experience for the guests, connecting with them on a more emotional level than other booking sites are able to do.

 

Phase _01

Orbitz came to us with the idea so our first step was more focused on consumer journey leading up to and user experience on-site.

Phase _02

I put myself in the shoes, or bed, of the target plant loving millennial consumer - what would surprise and delight me in this experience? My team and I worked to create renderings of what these dream rooms might look like to be able to sell them in to consumers. The rooms sold out FAST, now we had to make it a reality!

Phase _03

Plants selection, sizing and placement were only part of the action item list, we also created kits to welcome each guest to the room that included some great spa & take home items. We put it all together to create the ultimate plant lovers paradise!
